Sharmil Bhushan is a Partner within the Banking & Finance team at Kochhar & Co. in the Firm’s Mumbai office.
With over 16 years of experience, her practice spans banking and finance, investment funds, financial services, mergers & acquisitions, takeovers, private equity, structuring and funds formation, inbound and outbound investments, securities market, strategic alliances, joint ventures, corporate and debt restructuring, resolution of distressed assets, enforcement of security, insolvency proceeding, general corporate and commercial transactions.
Sharmil regularly advises Indian and multinational banks, NBFCs, financial institutions and their branches situated in International Financial Service Centres, GIFT City and corporates across sectors on various aspects of Indian law, including capital expenditure, project and acquisition financing, leveraged buyouts, and the structuring and implementation of debt, quasi-debt, and equity transactions.
She has been actively involved in debt restructuring and security enforcement assignments as well as the insolvency resolution process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, She also advises on the establishment of private equity funds, offshore funds, venture capital funds, alternative investment funds (AIFs), infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs), and real estate investment trusts (REITs).
Her corporate advisory work encompasses deal structuring and conceptualization, negotiations, documentation, and the closing of corporate and commercial transactions, including the monitoring of pre- and post-closing obligations. She has considerable experience assisting investors in devising and implementing exit strategies from Indian investments, and routinely advises Boards of listed and unlisted companies on governance and related issues
Sharmil is a regular contributor to legal academia and visits law colleges and business schools across India as an honorary professor.
