Mayur Shetty is a Partner within the Dispute Resolution team at Kochhar & Co. in the Firm’s Mumbai office.

Bringing over two decades of experience, Mayur is a seasoned litigator whose practice spans a broad spectrum of legal challenges, including complex commercial disputes, recovery and security enforcement, constitutional issues, insolvency, white-collar crimes, and corporate disputes.

He has represented a diverse client base comprising leading Indian companies, banks, public sector entities, and multinational corporations, with expertise extending to cross-border and multi-jurisdictional matters. Mayur has also provided counsel and representation in both domestic and international arbitrations, including proceedings under the auspices of major institutions such as the SIAC and LCIA.

Clients consistently value his strategic acumen and execution, qualities that have frequently led to amicable settlements and delivered significant savings in time and legal costs. Mayur is an avid speaker and is regularly invited by the prestigious Maharashtra Police Academy as a guest lecturer to deliver talks on corporate investigations and white-collar crimes.

• Advised a major real estate client in managing Rs. 2000 crores entrusted to a land aggregator through various newly formed entities, secured crucial interim relief that significantly influenced the case outcome in favor of the client.
• Represented a leading telecom operator against heavy one-time spectrum charges imposed by the Department of Telecommunication (DoT); successfully secured a stay from the Bombay High Court, preventing license renewal issues.
• Successfully represented a leading Mumbai based construction company in a corporate hijacking case, which received extensive media coverage.
• Represented one of the state’s major electricity providers against its Workers Federation, comprising 17 workers’ unions, which had called for a 72-hour strike. A stay on the strike was successfully obtained, preventing a major electricity outage across large parts of Maharashtra.
• Advised and acted for the largest Indian public sector bank in a recovery proceeding. Argued in court that the bank was entitled to a compound interest rate as per the agreement, rather than the simple interest upheld by lower courts, leading to a favorable and lucrative settlement for the bank.
• Represented a leading multinational corporation on its several multi-million-dollar EPC contract disputes with Sterling Wilson Group, securing favorable orders from the High Court and the Apex Court.
• Advised a Mauritius-based fund in an international arbitration dispute seeking an exit from the respondent company. The case settled post-final hearing, granting the client the desired exit terms, despite initial arguments that the exit was void under company law.
• Represented the Indian entity of a multinational company in an LCIA arbitration concerning the takeover of a manufacturing plant, culminating in a favorable settlement.
• Advised and acted for the organizing body of a cricket league regarding a writ petition challenging the procedures adopted by the client, the Mumbai Cricket Association, and the BCCI. The petition was dismissed, validating the procedures as appropriate and legal.
• Acted as counsel for a leading distributor of HP and Apple, successfully obtaining an award against Micromax in a contested arbitration, where the Bombay High Court validated the arbitration clause on an invoice as binding.
