Suma is a Partner in the Bangalore office of the firm and focuses primarily on labour and employment matters. She has advised clients on various aspects of industrial and labour laws, ranging from setting up establishments/units in India to the closure of businesses. The clients advised by her include various sectors: manufacturing, IT/ITeS, telecom, banking and financial institutions, logistics, and other business.
She has advised domestic and international clients on employment matters involving compliance requirements under various labour laws, engagement of different categories of workforce, contract labour management, employee rights and obligations, compensation and employee benefits, change in conditions of service, termination of employment, disciplinary process, etc.
She advises clients on contentious and non-contentious matters, industrial disputes, trade union activities, collective bargaining, strikes and lockouts, wage settlements, and unfair labour practices. She has advised on corporate restructuring and workforce reorganization, including the transition of employment of employees.
She also advises on health and safety regulations at the workplace, anti-harassment guidelines, the grievance redressal process, and handling of employee claims. She advises on workplace investigations and handling of disputes involving directors and senior management. She has also advised on strategies required to be adopted in mitigating the risks associated with employee claims.
She handles HR gap analysis/audit and advises clients on steps to be taken to mitigate the risks associated with non-compliances and corrective actions. She has advised the clients in defending cases against the companies and directors for alleged non-compliances under labour laws.
