Aparna heads the Intellectual Property Practice at the Bangalore office of Kochhar & Co., a leading law firm in India.
Aparna completed an integrated Honours degree, in Arts and Law from Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College, Bangalore, India. She subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Law from JSS Law College, Mysore, India, focusing on Business Law and Intellectual Property.
She has experience in advising on business structuring, safeguarding company assets, and navigating the nuances of both corporate and employment-related intellectual property. Her work often involves assessing the potential of business alliances, identifying risks, and contributing to strategies that align legal protection with business growth.
Aparna brings extensive experience across the full spectrum of intellectual property, including trade marks, patents, copyrights, designs and domain name disputes, along with related advisory and contentious matters. Her practice spans complex brand protection strategies, cross-border intellectual property and corporate due diligence, and the prosecution and enforcement of rights across jurisdictions. She has also advised on patent and copyright issues, supported national phase patent filings, and handled intricate domain name disputes with a steady, solution-oriented approach.
Aparna has successfully negotiated and resolved numerous disputes, guiding discussions toward practical, commercially viable settlements and helping parties avoid prolonged litigation.
Aparna’s work further extends across diverse sectors such as IT, media and entertainment, consumer and lifestyle, healthcare and life sciences, and industrial and infrastructure, as well as related dispute resolution matters.
Aparna is avidly involved in legal education having taught courses in law, served on academic boards and been involved in curriculum design and syllabus development.
Aparna has also recently co-authored two articles for Thomson Reuters titled “Brand Protection Online (India)” and “Trade Marks License Agreements.”
