Profile

Dhruv is a Senior Partner in the Dispute Resolution Practice group and has been in active litigation practice for the past 35 years. He has been with the Firm for over 24 years.

Dhruv is an eminent litigation lawyer and his main area of practice has been high stake corporate commercial litigation. He has represented some of the large multinational corporations in litigations against their joint venture partners before the Company Law Board, the Delhi High Court, the Allahabad High Court and the Supreme Court of India.

Dhruv has been successful in litigation relating to recovery of money/winding up petitions filed on behalf of multinational corporations before the various Indian courts including the Company Judge Delhi High Court.

Dhruv has also acted for several MNCs in international commercial arbitrations and has represented them before the ICC in which the seat of arbitration was London and before the Singapore Arbitration Center. He continues to represent many of the Firm’s clients in arbitration (both domestic and international) and related proceedings before the courts for appointment of arbitrator and interim measures.

Dhruv represents some of the world’s most prominent brands in the retail Banking, Automobile, Online travel sector before the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) and other Consumer Commissions throughout India.

Select Experience Statement

  • Represented a French joint venture company before the Delhi High Court in a dispute with its Indian joint venture partner relating to payment of about USD 160 million initially in petitions for interim measures and later in proceedings relating to enforcement/execution of the ICC Award awarding the claimed amount with interest. Prior to the above, he assisted the client in the ICC Arbitration where the seat of Arbitration was London.
  • Acted for a Fortune 500 US company specialising in integrated automation systems in their dispute with one of India’s leading educational institution in an arbitration and related proceedings before the Delhi High Court for appointment of an arbitrator and interim measures.
  • Representing a US based corporation before the Company Judge of the Delhi High Court in its dispute with an Indian company and its Managing Director who had illegally siphoned off huge sums of money from their investments in the company. The total stakes involved are about INR 1.5 billion.
  • Recently represented a leading Indian hospital chain in an arbitration relating to their dispute with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for recovery of INR 34 Million with interest which has been awarded in favour of the client while a counter claim of approximately 14 Million raised by the Ministry dismissed in toto.
  • Over the last about 8 years, Dhruv has represented a well-known US Educational Group in multiple and complex disputes with their Indian joint venture partner relating to termination of the contract and consequently stopping the use of their IPR and enrolment of fresh students for their online higher education courses in India. He was successful in defending the client’s interest before the Delhi High Court whereas the Indian party did not get any relief from the Court.
  • Currently representing a British Virgin Island company in their dispute with an Indian company relating to refund of the advance paid amounting to USD 1,40,000 with interest.
  • Acting for an American television and media conglomerate in their dispute relating to use of their registered Trademark by an Indian company on its products despite termination of the license agreement. He is also acting for the same client in a suit for recovery of dues and damages against the Indian company.
  • Acted for the legal heirs of a deceased lawyer from Malaysia in a writ and suits filed for return of their fix deposits against the State Bank of India which were held up due to a counter claim made on the same by the other legal heirs of the lawyer. He was successful in getting the amount released to the client amounting to INR 44 Million with interest.
  • Acted for several individual and other clients in probate petitions, divorce petitions and criminal complaints relating to bouncing of the cheques and causing death or injury due to rash and negligent driving.
  • Appearing on behalf of a US corporation in suits filed by two of its employees seeking monitory compensation in lieu of the notice period before the Indian courts.
